It Takes A City were recently chosen to present a ‘Beautiful Border’ at the 2026 Gardeners’ World Autumn Fair at Audley End.
The border, called ‘New Beginnings’, was designed by professional gardener Suzie Nicholson, who gained an understanding of homelessness through volunteering at Crossways, our emergency accommodation project in Cambridge.
The border aimed to reflect the journey from hardship to hope she had witnessed our residents making. Amongst the beautiful planting were incredible insects made from wire by a former guest who had been on that journey and now has a home of their own.
Throughout the weekend Suzie and Barry, our Volunteer Coordinator, talked to hundreds of people about ITAC’s work and the power of gardening as a way to reconnect with the natural world.
All their hard work was recognised when the border was awarded a silver certificate.
