It Takes A City, the Cambridge homelessness charity, is recruiting a new Chair.
Chris Jenkin, our founder and current Chair, is seeking to retire and focus his time on other projects. This is an important appointment for the charity as we build upon our initial years.
It Takes A City’s vision is that homelessness in Cambridge should be rare, brief and non-recurring. To this end, we provide services where we identify needs we believe we are well placed to meet. We also convene, clarify and coordinate, working with partners from across the community.
Our work has grown significantly in recent years.
We run award-winning winter accommodation for twenty people at our Crossways premises and, starting this summer, B&B provision for people experiencing homelessness in the same building.
We have The Haven, our overnight safe space for women in Cambridge city centre; a floating support service called Survive & Thrive; and the Street Storage project where people can store their belongings securely.
In addition, we initiated and facilitate the Cambridge Homelessness Charter, a cross-city multi-stakeholder partnership to end homelessness.
We are looking for a non-executive Chair who can lead and develop the board as it oversees the next phase of the organisation’s work.
Our new Chair will have experience of charity governance; familiarity with the opportunities and challenges facing small charities; some knowledge of homelessness in Cambridge and the stakeholders in the sector.
We anticipate our focus in the next few years will be internal consolidation, organisational development and innovative thinking about how to end homelessness.
