Food is central to the care and support we offer at Crossways, our winter emergency accommodation project. For many, life on the streets means access to good, nourishing food can be difficult and sporadic.
During the day, our guests can prepare themselves a sandwich, snack or hot drink. Soup and Pot Noodles are particular favourites.
Every evening, they can choose to enjoy a two-course meal together around one of the tables in our communal lounge, on their laps in front of the television or in their room if they prefer to eat alone.

With continued support from Cambscuisine Community Fund, three evenings a week the professional chefs at Cambridge Dining Co (CDC) prepare a main course and dessert, collected by volunteer drivers and served for our guests. CDC ensure there are vegan options and cater for other dietary needs. Their desserts are always a hit!
On the other evenings, our incredible team of volunteer Lead Cooks and Kitchen Assistants create tasty and nutritious meals from ingredients in our store cupboard, along with fresh vegetables and other produce donated by friends such as Buckingham Emergency Food Appeal (BEFA) and Cambridge Sustainable Food (CSF).

In an emergency, we can always rely upon the amazing Alan and Mary, who use the kitchen at St Andrew’s Street Baptist Church to create delicious contingency meals for us to put in our freezers, something they have done since the pandemic and every winter that Crossways has been open.
If you have a few hours to spare between now and the end of March, we still need volunteers, especially Cooks, Kitchen Assistants and Delivery Drivers. You can find all the details and application form on our Volunteero page
Our shelves are kept stocked with the help of generous donations we receive from our supporters in the community. It makes all the difference to a small charity like ours.
If your business, faith group, school or organisation would like to join them, we are always in need of the items on this list.
If you’d consider sponsoring regular supplies of meat, fruit, cheese, yoghurt or other items with a short shelf life, we’d love to start that conversation.
