Supporting LGBTQ+ Guests

At Crossways, we want to ensure that everyone who stays with us can feel safe and supported. Last year, several guests identifying as LGBTQ+ helped staff and volunteers gain a better understanding of the difficulties they faced in accessing services.

We wanted to build on this work and were delighted when Alex, Jo and Hannah from Cambridge Solidarity Hub (CSH) visited the project for a tour of the facilities and discuss how we could work in partnership.

CSH staff will be providing training for our Crossways team, and visiting regularly to support guests through activities that encourage conversations in a relaxed, unpressured environment.

Following the meeting we received this lovely message from Alex Clare-Young, CSH founder.

‘Thank you so much for meeting with members of Cambridge Solidarity Hub to discuss It Takes A City’s approach to LGBTQ+ diversity, equity and inclusion this winter.

We are really aware of the gaps in provision for LGBTQ+ folks and were really encouraged to see the ways in which trauma awareness and approaches sensitive to vulnerability are central to your work, making Crossways safer than many spaces for LGBTQ+ folks, and for everyone.

We are really looking forward to working together through training and visiting over the coming months and wish you and all of the staff, volunteers and residents all the best for the coming season’.
