Somewhere to call home.

In Cambridge, the community response to COVID-19 was incredible. Local authority, private and third sectors came together to ensure those rough sleeping or part of the ‘hidden homeless’ were provided with a safe, secure place to stay. Many were helped to move on to more settled accommodation, including the modular homes that you may have read about elsewhere.

The pandemic highlighted the urgent need for more of this type of housing, if we are to achieve the goal of providing everyone who needs it with somewhere to call home.

“We will use the homes to create micro-communities where former rough sleepers can feel at home, safe and secure, with access to support.”

It Takes a City (ITAC) Housing Group have formed a community land trust (CLT) to facilitate the provision of supported homes, through social investment, for rough sleepers and those stuck in hostel accommodation.

By coordinating land acquisition, planning, construction of the homes, infrastructure, support and housing management, the CLT aims to provide 20 homes a year, building lives and communities.
