We are excited to announce that the first modular home scheme from ITAC Homes will be located on land near Hills Road owned by Cambridge City Council. The homes will be made available to single homeless people together with wrap-around support. The homes are small, environmentally friendly, fully equipped and built using modern methods of construction (MMC) by New Meaning Foundation (NMF).
ITAC Homes has so far procured six modular homes from NMF, to the same design as the successful scheme at the church of Christ the Redeemer on Newmarket Road. All six are built and ready in the factory, and four will be transported to be installed at the new site. ITAC Homes is working with other major landowners to secure further sites for such schemes and is planning a “Land Summit” later in the year to widen the options.
Subject to planning, the homes will be installed later this year, with residents moving in during the autumn. They will be for single occupancy, with residents staying for up to two years.
Support is key. Residents will receive a comprehensive support package from It Takes a City (Cambridge) – ITAC – with regular visits from staff and volunteers, and referrals/signposting to a wide range of statutory and voluntary sector organisations. ITAC already supports former rough sleepers in a range of housing settings, including the highly regarded “Crossways” winter accommodation project.
‘Accommodating people will be just the start as we look at how we can assist them in identifying suitable employment, volunteering, education and training opportunities’.
