We were delighted when Abigail Owens, Dogs Trust Pets and Housing Regional Engagement Coordinator, visited Crossways (our winter emergency accommodation project).
We know how strong the bond can be between those experiencing homelessness and their animal companions. Indeed, some would rather stay on the streets than accept an offer of accommodation that doesn’t include their dog.
At Crossways, we have worked hard to make the project dog friendly. Abigail visited as part of the Welcoming Dogs scheme to check that everything was in place to receive Dogs Trust accreditation.
“With our recognition as a dog friendly service, we can ensure that people in need of accommodation, who may have refused to take the offer of a room elsewhere because their dog couldn’t accompany them, can finally get off the streets. In addition, our staff team strongly believes that dogs have a positive effect on the welfare of more than just their owners and this has certainly proven to be the case at Crossways”
