The place to meet, eat, recharge and recover

03/05/2022

The EDGE is a social enterprise that provides a welcoming and supportive community space, promoting community-led recovery to support people to turn their lives around. Additionally, The EDGE is run by individuals who are on this challenging journey themselves.

The EDGE Recovery hub is managed by Gail and the Cafe managed by Sarah, both with lived experience of addiction and alcoholism. The other members of staff work in the kitchen, baking the fantastic homemade goodies that are sold on site.

The EDGE receives no statutory funding, but luckily, they have someone on their Volunteer Board of Directors who is able to write a funding application on the back of an envelope and be successful! Their aim for the coming year is to become self-supporting through the Cafe, outside catering and hiring of the meeting room.

They are passionate about Recovery, their own and others, and food. The EDGE likes to think of itself as a yes place. In the five years they have been open, and more so since the pandemic, the Cafe has become more of a community hub, although still with its focus on recovery from addiction and mental ill-health.

“The EDGE is a place where community groups can come to meet, and where individuals can come to find more social interaction in their lives.”

The Recovery hub offers a wide range of regular activities, from Tai Chi and Yoga to drumming, games, quilting or knitting. There’s also an Edgy Men’s and Edgy Women’s group.

The cafe also hosts weekly mutual aid groups and other ad-hoc events,(Death Cafes, Changing Conversations, Music Workshops etc). All groups and events are free to attend. Find out more about the services they provide on the Street Support Cambridgeshire website.

The EDGE are looking for volunteers from all walks of life in each of their three ‘arms’, kitchen, food-hub and recovery peer-mentors. No experience is required. You’ll be invited to come and meet the staff to see which area would work best for you. More information can be found on the Street Support Cambridgeshire ‘Give Help‘ page.
