A trolley full of hope

28/03/2022

Our third article in the ‘3 Streets’ series focuses on the work of Caring for Cambridgeshire’s Homeless (CCH). You can read our previous two articles, showcasing StreetVet and Cambridge Women’s Resources Centre on our website.

CCH have been established for around 5 years. They are a non-funded, community support volunteer group offering care and kindness to the rough sleepers and vulnerably housed in Cambridgeshire.

Their friendly team of volunteers take out supplies of food, clothing and essentials to those in need. Their main focus is to provide a person with kindness and hope, especially to those who feel hopeless. Their food and donations aim to bring a little comfort to those experiencing hardship and despair.

You will find CCH pulling their trollies around the streets of Cambridge, stopping to support people they meet along the way. They provide food bags, hot drinks, sleeping bags, clothing, and often have hot food to hand out too. A lot of the time a smile, a friendly face and an ear willing to listen is all that is required.

“One small word of kindness can change someone's day”

They also run a monthly hot food event with their friends at 3 Pillars Feeling the Homeless in Peterborough. These monthly collaborations have proved to be very successful as they are able to provide plenty of supplies and a warm welcome to anyone who wishes to come along for something hot to eat and a friendly chat.

They endeavour to support other homeless services in Cambridge as much as they can, and always signpost anyone in need to engage with their support workers, as well as making referrals to StreetLink, should they meet anyone they are concerned about. Additionally, they work closely with the wonderful team at StreetVet who provide an invaluable service to rough sleepers and their pets.

You can look out for CCH on their route which begins near the Grafton Centre, along Petty Cury, past the Market Square, Sidney St and Regent St. If you’re interested to find out more, you can follow them on Facebook or send them an email at caringforcambridgeshireshomeless@hotmail.com.
